Appointment and removal of company directors

There are two situations in which the director of the company will be changed –

1. Appointment of a new director
2. Resigning of the existing director

To change a director of a company, specific forms must be filed with Companies House depending on the situation. The required forms are detailed below:

• If you are removing a director of a company, you need to inform Companies House by filing form TM01. You can submit this form to Companies House in the paper form or by following the online procedure. In case you want to file it online, you must have authentication code to access your company. In case you are not having it, you can ask the same from the Companies House.
• In case you want to appoint a new director into your company, you need to file form AP01 or AP02 (in case you are appointing corporate entity as a director). This form can also be filed to Companies House in paper form or by following the online procedure.

Changing Details of Director

In case you want to change the details of the existing director of the company such as director’s name, residential address or service address. You need to file form CH01 to Companies House. Change in details of director may be required due to the following reasons –

1. If a director moves to another house
2. If director gets married
3. If director changes his or her name by deed poll
4. If there is any error made at the time of appointing director.

Note - One you appointed the director with an incorrect date of birth, it is impossible to change it. If you really want to change it, you need to resign the officer and reappoint him with the correct date of birth.
